I always smile when I see a "barmaid" enter a building and see criiminal's name disapear off the job listĪs someone else mentioned the plantador and quick dry cement add ons both make the game easier. But there are new business buildings which have a ton of slots to stick your uneducated workers into, which compensate for the decreased manpower that farms/mining used to use in the base campaign. There are also new security booths in the new buildings which stop crime, though I typically use secret police to eliminate all criminals on my island. There are new buildings which tend to de-emphasize agricultural/mining industry manpower. Its also easy to save and then come back and continue the game at any time.įor those asking if the DLC is worth it, the Modern Times campaign is more of the same, which is a good thing. I beat the main campaign and am now on the Modern times campaign. Playing this way means a standard campaign mission lasts an hour or two, minimum. The laid back pace is pefect for me since I always play on the default time, except for when a natural disaster hits, which I then fast forward. I paused playing WoW, Deus Ex, Skyrim and now spend most of my current gaming time as a virtual dictator. Needless to say, I essentially have been playing Tropico almost every day since I have made my purchase. For some reason, Anno didn't click for me so I I still had an itch to play a city builder Anno left unfulfilled. I had never played a Tropico and had just bout Anno 2070. I bought this during the Steam holiday sale and have put 250 hours into it since January. It's entirely possible to never have a construction backlog of any size without ever once using quick build with that skill.
Getting one free is basically an instant no-maintenance start on industrial exports while speeding up all construction permanently, along with all your builders skilling up faster. The Cement Factory doesn't provide all that much export lucre, but it requires no raw materials whatsoever and increases the build speed on the island. One of the DLCs adds a trait for Presidente that gives you a free Cement Factory and increased experience gain for all your construction workers, which is really good. Laying down tons of construction offices helps ensure that there are always plenty of people on-call to get to work on new buildings, but it also means that the job experience is getting spread out to more Tropicans instead of creating a group of high-skill builders who can relatively easily get a complete building up before they have to go to the church/market/clinic/home. The more job experience they have the faster they get buildings up and running. One thing that's easy to overlook is the importance of experience to your builders. Other than that I try not to use quick build at all, and it works pretty well. Whenever I'm developing a new section of the island the first thing I do is lay down a new garage and quick build it so the construction workers have a means of leaving the construction site in a timely manner when they're done.
